RE: Ohio and I-75

Just did 23 to 75 north last week and there were no problems. I travel to the UP once or twice a year and never use 75 the entire way. Just follow the signd from the tpk and your be fine

RE: What kind of Wax do you 5ers use?

I agree with Gary Franks....Meguir's makes a High Gloss No. 45 (I believe...blue bottle) Boat and RV wax. It's made for gel coated surfaces. Really works great and shines.

RE: Fibreglass vs. Aluminum?

RE: State Park or Nice Campground In Central or Western Virginia

Back from Goose Point and I thought it was great ($21 a night didn't hurt either). Our trailer is 33' and the only problem was scraping the inside tires (SLIGHTLY) on an inside curb while navigating C loop (prior posts indicated it was unavoidable and ...it really was) We had site 18, pictured above by GoneCamping (motorhome) which had room to spare and would easily ne accessible to your rig. You too would problem just sustain a minor inside tire rub (don't jump the curb too early....tree). CG reviews everywhere say it's a horror to get into, with a 5 mile entrance, but it wasn't too bad.

RE: inspection

Yes I would. Being from PA I'm sure you saw recently where the TT trailer lost it's wheel/tire (dually combo) which struck and killed a motorist traveling in the opposite direction...In the event the trailer is NOT inspected (as required in PA)I would suspect the operator/owner could face some type of criminal charge based on negligence. A civil suit would be definite..

RE: New 5ver: Cardinal, Montana, Bighorn,Jayco Designer

Gotta agree with donn0128. We hit both the Cardinal and Cedar Creek dealerships and Cedar Creek Silverback was the best deal over all, on a Forest River. Trailer was new vs a year old left over...also had the gel coated exterior walls vs the fiberglass. And as already stated 'cheaper'......

RE: How many miles on your sparkplugs?

Had a 1997 Ford F-150 and it went 110,000 before needing to be replaced. But when they fouled I was pulling a trailer and it wasn't a pleasant final 50 miles.

RE: Airing down 5ver tires as a means of leveling

I stick with the 2x8's as well. Even threw in some decking boards for less lift situations..

RE: Where to dump in Philly?

Some PA Turnpike rest areas have dumping stations with water. I used Allentown several years ago to wash out before winterizing, and it was a $5.00 charge. Check their website. Not all rest areas have the dump stations.

RE: When do you tie down your awning?

I use the deflappers and have tie downs which are still in their package. I always pitch the awning but if it's too windy I'll just roll it up. It's 22' long and too much of a sail. I figure better safe than sorry.

RE: Disney/Ft Wilderness first timers!

Check out the Hoop Dee Doo Review, which is right in the campground. I thought I would hate it (wife even offered to cancel) and I had the best time. Food was good and plentiful as they refill your bucket with ribs and or chicken (mini pitchers of beer and sangria as well). We rented the golf carts (bikes would have been great as mentioned) which was useful as we frequented the smaller of the two pools, as it was always less crowded. Lastly they have the cleanest public restrooms from what I could tell...unfortunately it was on the last night that I stopped in (had a TT at the time and jammed myself in the shower all week). If I every go back with the 5ver...I'm hanging out in the campground the whole time as well.

RE: campground near amish country

Warwick Woods will put you closer to Phila. but farther from Lancaster. Spring Gulch and Lake in Wood are two more that have a lot to offer, and we like Oak Creek as well. My first choice woould be Spring Gulch though, as we frequent there. If you have kids then there is also a Jellystone in Quarryville. It's gotten way expensive and we vowed not to return but will try it once more, next month, to check out it's new waterpark.

RE: fifth wheel hitch lube?

I saw that article too...where they discussed dismantling and using chassis grease on a lot of the interior parts. Mine is cover by a tonneau cover when not in use so the rust they mentioned isn't really an issue. I have checked mine, along with the lube plate I just use slide out lube (which is dry too) to take care of the slide rails and jaws etc...

RE: Turnpike Tolls

I go to MI every Oct. and I only use rte 80 now. The last several times I was on the tpk it had horrible construction zones out west. Rte 80 has been smooth sailing, and as mentioned FREE, and I won't even think of the TPK. ALSO...the PA TPK travels south and then curves up beginning around Pittsburgh to join the OH TPK, well into OH while 80 runs right into it.

RE: Turnpike Tolls

Ditto to using 80....and it'll run you right into the OH tpk.

RE: Portable charger use on house battery

I was told 10 amp was acceptable BUT that was only to get by during a 2 week trip after the converter died on the second day. Both CC emergency road service and the local NY rv service/sales store, who I called to get a second opinion, where my sources..

RE: dodge auto trans

48re and I usually have the OD locked out unless I'm on a highway at speeds over 50 MPH (OD speed). Like already stated you can listen to the tranny and hear it calling for more (OD) when above 50 MPH. Temp gauge, also as stated above, will also show a significant drop when the OD is engaged and traveling around 55-60 for an extended period of time.
